Corporations and Human Rights

In recent years, transnational corporations have gained unprecedented power and influence in the world economy. According to several investigations, this has not always benefited the societies in which they find themselves. There is often a negative impact on human rights in the communities where they operate.

This impact may lead to direct human rights abuses committed by companies. Despite the potential to cause harm, there are almost no effective national or international mechanisms that prevent human rights abuses committed by companies or to make these companies accountable for their actions, leaving those affected by these acts in situations of marginalization and vulnerability, without the protection they are entitled or without meaningful access to justice.

ProDESC considers it necessary to build a more just and equitable society for all communities. That is why we believe that both national and international companies must comply with national regulations and the highest standards of human rights protection. In the same way, they must repair the damage done to the earth and its ecosystems, as it is the citizens’ only property and has suffered from the installation of various industries in their areas of residency.
