Labor Rights

Since 1998, the International Labor organization (ILO) adopted the “Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work,” and marked a new commitment for member states to respect and advocate principles of freedom of association, the right to collective bargaining, elimination of forced labor, abolition of child labor, and the elimination of discriminatory practices in employment and occupation. However, international regulation is still a weak instrument in the struggle for global labor rights as many countries, including those who have ratified the declaration, have not applied these principles.

For ProDESC the struggle for Justice in regards to labor rights represents one of the most important tools to achieve a concrete and true improvement of the unjust conditions that thousands of Mexican workers currently suffer. Such conditions are also appearing in other countries at an alarming rate. We believe that through collective organization and rights training, workers can demand their rights and provide a more dignified life to their families.
