Where Hotel Xi Ciudad de México Roma

As you might recall, in October 2007 the first binational Labor Justice convening, organized by ProDESC and Centro de Derechos del Migrante (CDM), was held in Mexico city. The event brought together more than 60 people (among them participants, speakers, and observers) representing 40 human rights organizations, academic centers, and unions. The event had two objectives: (1) promote a dialogue between organizations and U.S and Mexican defers to create integral strategies that go beyond isolated acts of solidarity, and (2) overcome cultural and organizational gaps between groups from the two countries with the result of establishing a base for mutual understanding and strengthening the struggle for binational labor justice.
At the event a series of proposals for joint initiative were identified, including the formation of a working network, joint production of research documents, training exchanges between organizations from both countries, and workshops on labor legislation, among others. During these past two years, some of these purposes have been achieved, for example the Binational Justice Manual: A Normative Framework for the Defense of Immigrant workers in Mexico and the United States, produces by ProDESC and CDM.
The Transnational Strategies meeting organized by ProDESC aims to build upon the collaborative work that several of us have conducted these past two years, identify strategic collaborative lines of work, and an and design transnational labor justice cases and organizing campaigns.
